Lowdown for Wednesday, October 28, 2009

The wait is over—Michael Jackson’s documentary “This Is It” is in theatres nationwide today and is expected to the ‘it’ movie of the year. I got to check it out last night and there are times you forget it was the rehearsal of Michael’s last tour. You get to see a very intense Michael—every note and dance move has to be perfect. Not weighing more than 90lbs., you get to see Michael sometimes irritated with musicians when they came in too soon or not hold a note long enough, but he would always end his scolding with “it’s all in love.” “This Is It” is only in theatres for two weeks.

Overall, the critics are giving “This Is It” a ‘thumbs up’. Michael’s brother, Jermaine was on the red carpet of the movie premiere last night and checked in on “Larry King Live”.

Another rapper is going after Jay-Z. This time it’s Beanie Sigel. He and Jigga were performing in Philly.Beanie got on stage and said “This is my city! I’m gone run this town tonight” and then started mocking part of the opening of Jigga’s “Blueprint 3” CD when Jigga talks about Santa Clause ain’t black. Beanie says “f that n***!” The crowd started booing him and Beanie’s mic eventually got cut off. And the crowd started chanting “Hova!” Then I heard Jigga refused to perform while Beanie was in the building—so the po-po escorted him out!

Speaking of Jay-Z, I hear he, Beyonce and their entourage went to lunch at this really cool spot in NY called Nello’s. They spent about $1200 and left a $500 tip.

It seems Plies has a sensitive side. I hear he was performing at FAMU over the weekend and was about to do is song “Bust It Baby”, and noticed a little girl in the audience. Plies thought she was too young to listen to the song, so he gave her $1000 to leave the show. Plies has a scary side, too and not the ‘goon’ he makes out to be. Jamie Foxx says he was on Plies video set recently when 30 goons rolled up. Jamie says he resolved the situation, while Plies ran to the bathroom in fear.

Will Weezy have to lose his dredlocks? He may have to cut them when he heads to a New York prison next year because dreds aren’t allowed unless Weezy is Rastafarrian.

Now that they are married, of course Khloe Kardashian and Lamar Odom have to get tattoos on their hands. Lamar has “KO” on his hand; Khloe has “LO” on hers.

The biggest names in hip hop on the tube last night as the Hip-Hop Awards popped off. Jay Z took home four awards including ‘Best Live Performer’ and ‘Lyricist of the Year’. Mos Def, Black Thought and Eminem did a cipher that was off the chain.
