Wait a minute—is Drake beefing?? Memphis rapper Kia Shine went after Drake last week saying Drake hardly ever writes any of his material and that it was HIM who actually wrote 25% of Drake’s “Best I Ever Had.” Now Drake is speaking out saying that ol’ dude is 100% lying. Drake says he’s never even met Kia Shine or worked with him so what is he talking about. Drake says he only borrowed one line in “Best I Ever Had” and he got that form a Lil Wayne song—but Kia only produced the beat for that, so get your facts straight.
We haven’t heard a lot from Ja Rule so where has he been and how much is he worth these days? Here’s what I learned from AllHipHop—that Ja actually has some paper.. He’s sold 35 million records and was the fast-selling rapper and highest paid, his former group Cash Money Click settled a $45 million claim—Ja gets about $38 million of that; he’s been in 14 movies and made about $16 mill from those; teamed up with Irv Gotti to make a clothing line and has his own drink. So in all, Ja Rule is worth about $90 million. I ain’t mad, Ja!
Damon Dash is coming back—sort of. I hear he’s producing an all-star album called “BlacRoc.” He’s reached out to Ludacris, Jim Jones and Mos Def for the project that’ll feature rapping over live tracks. The tracks will be done by a rock and blues band. I’ll keep you posted.
Are you ready for the next all-female super group? Ok, how about Tamia, Deborah Cox and Kelly Price—also known as TDK. The three to release a CD called “The Queen Project” next year.
Another supergroup in the making. Ne-Yo, Fabolous and Ryan Leslie say they’ll work together on some projects and are leaving the table open for other artists to join him, but they say you gotta bring your “A” game.
Sad news for Wyclef Jean. His wife’s father passed. Not a lot of details, but Eric Pierre died less than a month after watching Wyclef and Claudinette renew their wedding vows on their 15th anniversary.
After scrapping a shows because of protest threats, Beyonce plans to take her “I Am” tour to Malaysia. She’ll perform October 25th, but the government will be watching. They are against Western, sexy performances.
