Lowdown for Monday November 2, 2009

Finally—Rih Rih is breaking her silence!! Rihanna will perform on ABC’s “Good Morning America” this Thursday morning at 7 and then the biggie--she’ll do a sit-down on ABC’s 20/20 this Friday night at 10. This will be her first in-depth interview since she was beat down by her ex, Chris Brown.

 

Gucci Mane a no-show at North Carolina A&T’s homecoming this past weekend. He dropped out at the last minute. The word is students and administrators really didn’t want him because of his lyrics and ties to gangs. But promoters said the real reason Gucci didn’t show was because he couldn’t. There’s a ruling that prohibits him from traveling out of his home state. Gucci was a no-show at Florida A&M last month for the same reason.

 

Lil’ Weezy and Birdman are getting sued. A man named Thomas Marasciullo says he created “Italian-styled spoken word recordings” for them back in ’06, but they’ve been using his voice on a track without his permission. He wants to get paid.

 

Meanwhile, tragedy for Fat Joe. A member of his crew—a rapper named Mike Beck was shot and killed in Brooklyn last Friday night. Apparently a botched robbery attempt led to the shooting. Beck was a member of a rap group called K.A.R. –they had just released a mixtape this year.

 

Moving on to couple news—I hear there’s trouble in love land for Mariah Carey and Nick Cannon. It seems Mariah has been partying and drinking a lot supposedly because she’s disappointed the two haven’t gotten pregnant yet. Well, Mimi the drinking won’t help, boo! And I hear Nick really isn’t feelin’ Mariah’s weight gain either.

 

New music has been leaked from Usher and Alicia Keys. Check out Usher’s “Daddy’s Home” and Alicia Key’s “Try Sleeping With a Broken Heart”.

I think Mashonda must have written this one. Usher’s other song is called “More.”

 

The #1 movie over the weekend was of course, Michael Jackson’s “This Is It”. It did about $21 million in the states, but worldwide in the first five days the movie earned $101 million—that’s money in Japan, Britain, Germany, France and China. And Sony says they will extend the movie for another three for four weeks on a country-by-country basis.
